10 Questions Every Couple Should Ask Before Booking a Wedding Venue

Choosing your wedding venue is one of the biggest decisions you'll make during the planning process. Your venue influences your guest experience, photography, timeline, budget, and overall wedding style. Touring venues is exciting, but knowing the right questions to ask can help you make an informed decision and avoid surprises later.

Here are ten important questions every couple should ask before signing a contract.

1. What Is Included in the Venue Rental?

Every venue is different. Some include tables, chairs, ceremony seating, parking, bridal suites, and setup, while others charge separately for these items. The following are included with the Julia Morgan Redwood Grove.

  • 100 padded / 50 slated ceremony chairs with one reset

  • 10 round tables / 10 rectangle tables

  • Standard white base linens (not decorative or wrinkle free)

  • On-site event support

  • Shuttle service (with standard route)

  • Access to one on-site restroom facility

    • Additional restroom accommodations may be required based on guest count.

  • Wine cellar experience

  • 3 Complimentary Site Visits

Ask for a complete list of what is included so you can accurately compare venues.

2. What Is the Guest Capacity?

Consider both your ceremony and reception.

A venue should feel comfortable for your guest count, not overcrowded or too large. Ask about maximum capacity and whether different event spaces have different limits.

  • East & West Lawn 1-200 guests

  • Orchard Area 1-140 guests

  • Estate Main Floor 1-100 guests

3. Is There a Weather Backup Plan?

Outdoor weddings are beautiful, but it's important to know what happens if the weather changes.

Ask whether the venue offers indoor spaces, covered areas, or tent options in case of rain or unexpected weather.

The Julia Morgan Redwood Grove offers indoor spaces and tent options.

4. Can We Choose Our Own Vendors?

Some venues allow couples to bring in any licensed vendors they choose, while others maintain a preferred vendor list.

All services and vendor contacts provided by Julia Morgan Redwood Grove are offered as a resource for planning purposes only.

We do not recommend, endorse, or favor any service provider, vendor, or business over another. Couples are encouraged to research, interview, and select vendors that best fit their needs, style, and budget.

Understanding your options early can help simplify planning.

5. Are Overnight Accommodations Available?

If you're planning a destination wedding, on-site lodging can be a tremendous benefit for family members and the wedding party.

It also allows everyone to relax and enjoy the celebration without additional travel.

The Julia Morgan Redwood Grove has limited on-site lodging consisting of a 2 bedroom, 2 bath cottage and a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom upstairs apartment.

Also near by is the Historic Benbow Inn, the amazing KOA and additional lodging establishments 5 minutes nearby in Garberville, CA.

6. What Is the Venue's Setup and Cleanup Policy?

Ask who is responsible for:

  • Setting up tables and chairs

  • Decorating

  • Vendor coordination

  • Cleanup after the reception

Knowing these details can save time and reduce stress on your wedding day.

At the Julia Morgan Redwood Grove set-up is included in the booked event window, unless previously agreed between the parties in writing.

At the Julia Morgan Redwood Grove clean up and removal of all trash and decorations is required immediately after the event and shall not go past 11:00PM. 7. Are There Noise or Time Restrictions?

Every venue has policies regarding amplified music, event ending times, and quiet hours.

Understanding these policies helps you plan your reception timeline and entertainment.

Events held at the Julia Morgan Redwood Grove shall conclude by 10:00PM local time, unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Noise Curfew: In accordance with local permit requirements, all amplified music and outdoor entertainment must conclude by 10:00 PM. We ask all guests to be respectful of neighboring properties by keeping noise to a minimum after this time.
